Wetzel’s Four-day Work Week

93% of U.S. managers support moving to a four-day work week. 64% of them expect to make the transition within the next five years. This is according to research recently reported by Fox Business, along with the results of a study conducted in the United Kingdom. The UK study had 61 companies with 2900 workers move to a four-day work week for six months. Employees worked an average of 34 hours per week, and they kept their existing salaries. The findings were enlightening, and led 56 of the companies (92%) to stick with the four-day plan.

Some of the findings regarding employees were:

  • reduced stress, burnout, anxiety, and fatigue

  • better sleep

  • improved work/life balance.

The companies benefited from:

  • increased revenues

  • reduced attrition.

At the end of May, Wetzel Services made the choice to move to a four-day work week. Covid was a world-wide trauma that changed the way we did everything. As it winds down, it’s tempting to go back to the way things were, to return to our old ideas of normal. However, having change forced on us can give us a unique opportunity to see better ways of doing things. As with any company, we’re always pleased to find ways to improve our efficiency and productivity. Our main priority though, is the morale and the work/life balance of our fantastic team. We have consistently aimed to have a workplace that is flexible, fun, and family-focussed. We’re pleased to be able to implement this option that will enhance everyone’s well-being.

As a note, we are aware that urgent situations may arise any day of the week. We will, of course, be available to handle those for our clients. We will just not be physically in our office space.
