“Too many smart women with too much time on their hands.” This is how a friend in France described our group of “trailing spouses”. I spent eleven years accompanying my husband from country to country on his various work assignments, and to all appearances I was living the good life as a lady of leisure. While I did love my time abroad and didn’t have to face the stresses the rest of my family did at work and school, being the non-working spouse has its own challenges.
