Russian Fast Facts
- Russian ranks about 5th in the world in the number of total speakers
- Russian is a Slavic language; it has also been influenced by Finnic languages and more recently by German, Dutch, French, and English.
- Russia is considered a difficult language for English speakers to learn; one reason among many is that it uses a different alphabet. Russian is written in (a modified) Cyrillic alphabet. (English, German, French, etc. use the Latin [or Roman] alphabet.)
